Sexy Foreign Woman

Life in a foreign country

The good side of it

March24

Last weekend Russ and I went to Norwich to celebrate Steph’s birthday. Happy birthday Steph!!! (^)

We had a lovely time!!!

The hell part was the restaurant where we had our celebratory meal. Full of kids!!!! But the food was good (included a chocolate fondue) and the company better :)

On Sunday we had another lovely meal, this time cooked by Steph herself (you have to give me the recipes ;) ) And we spend some time with their children. Slowly getting used to them and actually becoming pleasant. They are lovely I must admit! :o

Another highlight of the weekend was the hotel where we stayed which included a jacuzzi!!!! Best bath I’ve even had. Even included the ambiance lights :D

The bad part was the awful weather when driving back. Snow, gale, hale,… Not good! English weather… :s Poor Russ had a hard time driving.

But, in the end it was all worth it and we had a lovely time to prepare us for the crazy week that followed!

Is it normal?

March23

That I have more visits from Saudi Arabia then my own country???? :'(

Portugal is only the 4th country after the United States, Great Britain and Saudi Arabia :o

It is closely followed by India, the Netherlands and Iran!

I have also visitors from Kuwait, Israel, Egypt, Bahrain, Romania, Denmark, Canada, South Africa, United Arab Emirates, Australia, China and Hungary!!!!!!!!

Although I’m much impressed with this internationalization, I can’t help but be concerned that there aren’t many visitors from Portugal…:(

But anyway, welcome!!!! I am very pleased to know you find something interesting to read on my weblog!!!

:D

EDIT: These are results from this month only; from the beginning of the year Portugal is still in 4th after Austria.

QUESTION: Are these results accurate at all???

The English weather(1)

March21

(I suspect this will be one of many post on the English weather….)

It has been nice and warm this winter.

With the exception of the snow day, this year I didn’t complain much about the cold.

The last few weeks it has been gorgeous! Jumpers stay at home, feather coat as well, sunglasses on and out to the sunshine and nice temperatures.

Of course that, as we say in Portuguese, what is good never lasts. and now that spring is here I’ve been having moments where I think my face will fall off with the cold!!!! Really freezing!!!!

I have no idea how the weather is in Portugal. I remember it a lot nicer than here but considering that it snowed in Lisbon the last 2 year, I don’t have a clue. The effects of global warming :s Not good…

Anyway, I will be in Lisbon next week so I hope the weather is good!!!! :D

I’m always saying to my friends here how fantastic the weather is in Portugal and how much better than here; if they now go here and it’s horrible, I won’t look good :(

Fingers crossed

Spring today!!

And it’s freezing!!!!!! :'(

Clarification on deadlines

March14

I decided to post this as I think there must be some misunderstandings around here. So I just thought I would clarify.

1- If you read my original post (Deadlines) correctly, and as I stated several times in the comments, I WAS NOT complaining, but asking what do other people do in these situations; work late nights or go to bed and start fresh in the morning. And from that, you should realise that I know this happens with most people otherwise I wouldn’t have asked the question. Most people seemed to have understood this, based on the vast majority of replies that I received.

2- Obviously people don’t know what I do in my room every minute of the day, so I should clarify that I DO work some weekends and late night hours. I’ve done this several times. Just because I am not on campus it doesn’t mean I am not working. And just because I believe that some other things, such as your mental health, are more important than work, it doesn’t mean I will not work, or work less than other people.

3- You should not always expect the same levels of work from people when they are ill! I do not believe that people can work at 100% in these cases. And I’m sure that people who are or have been in the same situation understand that.

4- As I wrote already, I know there are a lot of people in much worse situations who complain a lot less than some people who actually do nothing else but complain all the time. To me that seems a bit hypocritical.

5- It is obvious that some people will have to work on weekends if they do little or nothing at all during the normal working hours! Again this applies only to some people, not all!

6- It seems like some people have taken this subject a bit too seriously, and seem to keep wanting to refer to it, even though they are not really understanding what I write. If the subject is so important, I would suggest that you speak directly to me, as friends should do and as should have been done before any comment in public (at least that is how I act with people I consider my friends!!!). That way, any misunderstandings, as they have obviously happened, will be rapidly solved.

Because it would seem that people were not comfortable with the idea of speaking directly to me, which surprises me a bit, I have tried to explain things with comments. It obviously didn’t work! So from now on it’s my way: face to face!!

I am a bit tired of trying to explain things and people not understanding, therefore I will not reply to any more comments made on this weblog about deadlines.

Also I will not allow my reputation to be tarnished by observations that are not even true or not explained in the right context! I have my limits! And I also I can only tolerate so much hypocrisy.

Move on!

P. S. – Fortunately, the people who know me, and therefore the ones that matter, know how things REALLY happen.

Time out

March13

Today, after a crazy lunch hour satisfying the curiosity of 10 year olds on the planets, I finally had some time to breathe. I even had the time to go for a coffee break :)

After having my coffee with Becca I saw a Portuguese student here whom I haven’t seen in ages. Had a chat with him and felt reinvigorated!!! I had the chance to speak Portuguese! I was able to express myself exactly as I wanted without having to think much on how to say things! I was able to be funny, sarcastic, use very particular Portuguese expressions! We had a good laugh!! I never thought I would have such a feeling of freedom and at ease.

And besides that it was great to speak to someone who comes from the same country and is in exactly the same situation as me! Knows how things work, how it feels to be away and is at exactly the same place as me. And I was happy to know that I’m not the only one thinking the way I do.  It seems like we have the same difficulties in understanding certain differences in culture.

Anyway, I missed home even more! Can’t wait to go back! :)  27th, I’ll be there! And this timeI’ll take some friends with me to see what I talk about so much.

I wish some of my friends here could speak Portuguese. One in particular ;) It would make my life so much easier. And give me a break from all the English language :)
