Moving: remind me not to do it again
These last few weeks have been quite difficult. Moving house is never an easy thing and when you are pregnant, have low resources (meaning money) and need to move during the week makes it even more difficult.
First we had to pack everything. This took a lot longer than we tough and it was done almost entirely by me and Russ only.
Then we had to clear Russ’s parents’ garage so it could fit our stuff. I did the driving but didn’t do much of the clearing as it involved heavy stuff.
Then we had to go back home with Sophie so she could help us pack the rest, pick up a van too early in the morning and load it with our stuff. We had already packed most things which meant no food or drink in the house. Mac Donalds and KFC for days, blerrgh. The van wasn’t big enough for all our stuff so we had to drive twice to Derby. Sophie and Johnno were there to help otherwise we could never have done it in one day (thank you so much
). Scott and Lee helped with the last unload in Derby. The day ended up with me driving back to MK very late at night. I drove the van a total of 7 hours that day (if you add the loading and unloading time x2 you see how long that day was). But the good bit was that it was very cool to drive that baby. Even lorry drivers treat you as one of their own. Eheheh
. Look at it, it even has a lift in the back and of course its a Mercedes. Love them!
After all this another 2 days of cleaning walls, surfaces, carpets,… uff.
Back to Derby for a good night sleep and to organize some of the things we had brought and we finally had a semi-resting day on Thursday. Whoo-hoo! Friday we had to go back to MK for the house inspection by the Estate Agent. They seemed happy which means we might get all our deposit back
Every little helps.
I honestly can’t count the number of hours I drove in the last couple of weeks. As I couldn’t do any heavy lifting my job was to pack the small things and drive. I just need a rest from it for a few days and I think I will have it. Then on Wednesday we have to drive back to MK for a GP appointment and Thursday when we have to drive all the way to Exeter and back for a business meeting – another 7 hours if traffic is good.
Oh and we need to do it all again when we can move to the new house in 3 weeks. Until then we are living with Russ’s parents with bags and boxes all over our room
(not all fitted in the garage). Good job we really get along
I’m sure they will be happy when we move though and I can’t wait as well. Not because of the company but because I really love that house. So much space, gas central heating and gas hob (finally). It will be more difficult to move because it’s a 3 storey house but we can do it slowly and as we are only half-hour away we will have more help ![]()
I just hope the owners don’t change their minds ![]()
It was my pleasure. I’ll keep checking the post for my house warming invite.
All the very best for the new house! It sounds amazing! Congratulations on the PhD too (not long to go now)
Its an exciting time
