Exciting times regarding politics in this country. The debate was excellent. It just amazes me that it was the first one EVER! I’m so used to debates in Portugal that I never thought other countries may not have them. Well I’m sure dictatorships don’t have them but I was surprised that they may not happen in a democracy.
It is a case of quality not quantity, however. It was done in a very English way: All very controlled, polite, organized… But in the end the result was very good. And surprise surprise with the Lib Dems. No one even knew who their lider was and what were their policies and now watch the changes in polls.
I think debates (if done properly) are essential to clarify policies and to allow the public to make informed decisions.
It’s a shame I can’t vote…

After 4 years of living in this country I still can’t get used to certain foods. One of them is chip buttie.
Chips in bread??? That is just wrong!!!!

I can’t say enough times how happy I am we moved here. People a friendlier, there are shops around, we are close to family, easy links to the rest of the country, it’s cheaper, and I could go on.
One of the things I find funny is the accent. Being foreign it sometimes gets difficult to understand a thick Midlands accent. But slowly I’m starting to understand it better. It’s also funny to see that Russ is rapidly picking up on the accent as well.
I wonder if soon I’ll also be saying ‘I says’, ‘we was’ and calling people duck (is that the spelling?). I put so much effort into starting to say the ‘H’ (they are silent in Portuguese) and now I can drop it?
I just love the accent! But I hope I don’t get too caught by it, I want to keep my strictly foreignese accent.

Why do I still bother?

Maybe because I care…

Maybe because I’m human, or just stupid.

In the end the result is the same: a waste of time and patience and nothing changes…

Not even I change, cos I keep trying and hoping even though there are no results… sigh…

I love snow but it getting too much. Fortunately we haven’t had to leave the house lately but tomorrow we do and I can’t think of leaving the driveway with our car that has no fancy technology to control it (no traction control or even ABS).

Even though I haven’t left the house today I can tell it’s cold – the normal setting for the heating are not enough to keep us cosy as before. -10 is the forecast for tonight .

The only problem is that there is no sign of things getting better – more snow for the weekend- and the councils are running out of grit which means even more icy roads! Lets hope for the best and that if Tubbs decides to make an early appearance, we have a safe trip.

In the mean time I am enjoying the white!

The Portuguese consulate in London is closed on English holidays AND Portuguese! Nice place to work…

It makes it very difficult for foreign people to learn how to spell in English when you have 300 different ways of spelling the same name!

Not to mention that some names are good for boys and girls which can be rather embarrassing for me. I usually get it wrong

That said, I’m sure Portuguese has some of these problems as well – it is a very complicated language to learn.
