Life in a foreign country

Bureaucracy – I wanna go back to Portugal!!! (hint to Russ)

October27

I can’t believe that this country can be even more complicated than Portugal!

I have 8 different numbers for different departments because there isn’t one place I can call where they give me all the information I need. And even those different number can’t answer my questions and send me around to other departments and I end up with no information.

Is being self-employed that difficult in this country that you can’t get help or information from anyone? Or is being self-employed, having low income and being pregnant such a weird situation that no-one knows what to do?

Honestly it’s the second time in my life when I think the best for me is to just not work, not make any efforts to find work, divorce and live off the government!I will even have the greasy hair with a pony tale, dress like a chav and start smoking as I think that helps in this country. :@

Moving: remind me not to do it again

October24

These last few weeks have been quite difficult. Moving house is never an easy thing and when you are pregnant, have low resources (meaning money) and need to move during the week makes it even more difficult.

First we had to pack everything. This took a lot longer than we tough and it was done almost entirely by me and Russ only.

Then we had to clear Russ’s parents’ garage so it could fit our stuff. I did the driving but didn’t do much of the clearing as it involved heavy stuff.

Then we had to go back home with Sophie so she could help us pack the rest, pick up a van too early in the morning and load it with our stuff. We had already packed most things which meant no food or drink in the house. Mac Donalds and KFC for days, blerrgh. The van wasn’t big enough for all our stuff so we had to drive twice to Derby. Sophie and Johnno were there to help otherwise we could never have done it in one day (thank you so much (k) ). Scott and Lee helped with the last unload in Derby. The day ended up with me driving back to MK  very late at night. I drove the van a total of 7 hours that day (if you add the loading and unloading time x2 you see how long that day was). But the good bit was that it was very cool to drive that baby. Even lorry drivers treat you as one of their own. Eheheh :D. Look at it, it even has a lift in the back and of course its a Mercedes. Love them!mercluton

After all this another 2 days of cleaning walls, surfaces, carpets,… uff.

Back to Derby for a good night sleep and to organize some of the things we had brought and we finally had a semi-resting day on Thursday. Whoo-hoo! Friday we had to go back to MK for the house inspection by the Estate Agent. They seemed happy which means we might get all our deposit back :D Every little helps.

I honestly can’t count the number of hours I drove in the last couple of weeks. As I couldn’t do any heavy lifting my job was to pack the small things and drive. I just need a rest from it for a few days and I think I will have it. Then on Wednesday we  have to drive back to MK for a GP appointment and Thursday when we have to drive all the way to Exeter and back for a business meeting – another 7 hours if traffic is good.

Oh and we need to do it all again when we can move to the new house in 3 weeks. Until then we are living with Russ’s parents with bags and boxes all over our room:p (not all fitted in the garage). Good job we really get along ;) I’m sure they will be happy when we move though and I can’t wait as well. Not because of the company but because I really love that house. So much space, gas central heating and gas hob (finally). It will be more difficult to move because it’s a 3 storey house but we can do it slowly and as we are only half-hour away we will have more help :D

I just hope the owners don’t change their minds (yn)

Miserable

October13

Some people are just so miserable… And they make their lives miserable even if their lives are good!

I just want to keep away from them.

I wonder if they will ever be happy. Probably not!

Time Out

October9

Just a little bit. A few days to recover. I think I need it. No more problems and stress for a few days please.

Memories

October8

It annoys me that some people, not only have a selective memory, but they also make it up, twist facts, in fact recreate a whole situation.

It annoys me even more when they offend my intelligence and try to convince me that things happened a different way to fill their purpose.

One good thing I have is memory, and I’m also not stupid.

These people are also the most stubborn ones so trying to make them see things is not worth it. The best thing to do is turn my back and let them think they are right and that I believe them.

Things I’ve realised While I was in Portugal

September15

I have quite a few friends who can be truly happy for me :).

The end of an era

September3

I went to the OU to print some draft of my incomplete thesis today. I saw a couple of colleagues that started in the same year as me. We had a good chat and came to the conclusion that the end of an era is approaching. Even if some of us don’t finish on time after October that is it! We are all going our own ways. We agreed that we were a fantastic year. There were quite a few of us and all fantastic people. We should get together to celebrate!

Cheers class of 2005 ;)!

It’s a shame

September2

But that is how some things turn out to be. And I’m not looking back. I am at ease with my decisions.

Holiday in Wales

August17

A few weeks ago we went on holiday with Russ’s parents and his sister to Wales. We stayed in a lovely farm with sheep and a horse. It was excellent! We visited lots of fantastic places, wonderful views and had a great time. Here are some pictures that I took on my phone. Russ took lots more with his fancy camera but I’m yet to get my hands on them :P
